Pictures from the Y2KBug Quest held on Jan. 1, 2000. This timed quest (1hour (which was extended to an hour and a half due to holds)) began with the notification of the Stormwall populace that a menacing new creature had appeared in the woods near the Duchy and that they were reproducing rapidly. Players began with their full number of lives and class abilities and entered the woods to dispose of the malignant creatures. The 'bugs' had no special weapons nor armor and did not seem to be much of a threat until one of the bugs slew an adventurer; then the fun began! The bugs had the ability, upon slaying a player, to either take a life or use their Y2K ability on the player. Each bug had a six-sided die. If the bug chose to use it's power, the player kept his life, but a 1-5 on the roll of the die indicated the players sudden new level. If the bug rolled a 6, the player's class was randomized and he (or she) started back at Nirvana as a first level member of their new class.

As the quest went on, the players learned that each bug had a 'microdisk' and that a strange metallic rod with flashing lights had appeared in the forest (the bug's Nirvana). The bugs were immortal as long as their disk was hidden, but whenever a bug was slain, he would shout a clue as to the whereabouts of his disk. If a bug was slain while his disk was on the metallic od, that bug was slain permanently. Only the bug could remove his disk from the rod, and even then, he (or she) could only return the disk to the original hiding place. The game began with 6 bugs (5 with disks and one base guard). With 30 minutes to go, only 1 bug had been slain. With 10 minutes to go, only 2 had been slain, but the bug's secret was out. The base was destroyed and the last bug (the guardian) was slain with 45 seconds to go on the game clock. The menace of the Y2K bugs had ended and the populace discovered, some to terror and some to regret, that had the bugs won, they would all have been 'stuck' with whatever class and level they ended the game with for the remainder of the reign.

Wonderful day everyone,

Stormwall is (as everyone else) un-effected by the Y2K. We started off
the new year with some ditching,as usual, then battled off the Y2K bugs with
45 seconds to spare... I wasn't worried for a second.

The quest went off like it was supposed to (very unusual) the weather
was great (also unusual) and the field was not crowded with @$$-holes to
piss people off. of the last statement I am dumbfounded because I have NEVER
seen that happen in my 2 yrs. of playing the game, there is almost ALWAYS at
least one... but not today =)

I diddn't catch how many people signed in today someone who has the
info please pass it along, because I want to keep up on Storm-Wall's
re-progression to a Grand Duchy.

Also, I have been told that the relic quest (Feb. 2 I think) will be
held at Storm-Wall. It sounds like a whole lot of fun and if anyone
autocrating the event sees this, let me know if you need any help I would be
glad to offer my services, and my friends services, even though they don't
know it yet.
